LONDON — Big news from Pudsey! BBC Children in Need just released its first-ever Impact Report, and it shows some incredible ways the charity is helping kids all over the UK. In just one year, they supported 363,000 children and young people to help them through tough times.
The charity spent £96.1 million to help fund 1,600 projects. These projects give kids a safe place to go and people they can trust.
The “Golden Thread” of Friendship
The report says that the “secret ingredient” to helping kids is something they call a “golden thread” of trusted relationships. This means that awesome people like youth workers, mentors, and counselors are there to listen and help kids build up their confidence and “self-belief”.
Because of these projects:
- 116,000 kids feel better about themselves.
- 117,000 have made stronger friendships.
- 40,000 feel much safer.
In fact, 98% of kids said they feel happy at their projects because they are fun and they feel like they belong there.
Helping with Big Challenges
Life can be tricky, but BBC Children in Need is working hard to help:
- Mental Health: They gave £15.5 million to help kids who feel sad or worried, supporting 119,000 young people.
- Beating Poverty: They spent £20.6 million to help 172,500 kids who might not have everything they need at home, like clothes or food.
- Fairness for Everyone: Over 200,000 children—including young carers and kids with disabilities—were helped to feel valued and included.
- Family Support: £12.7 million went to helping kids who are going through hard times with their families.
Kids are the Bosses!
Did you know that kids actually help decide where the money goes? Through the Young Grantmakers program, kids helped award £940,000 to different projects. There are also Young Ambassadors who tell their own stories to help others.
